英半空驚現神秘黑圈

英國沃里克郡16歲少女希普，上周五與母親在利明頓皇家礦泉市打網球，抬頭一看，發現空中驚現神秘黑圈（圖），她立即以手機拍下奇景，說「這是我見過最怪異的事」。黑圈三分鐘後消散，至少10人目睹整個過程。
神秘黑圈看似煙霧，但消防部門指當時沒火災，氣象部門亦解釋不了黑圈來源。不明飛行物體（UFO）專家波普相信，黑圈可能由數以百萬計昆蟲聚集而成，但從未聽過昆蟲有此習性，指怪象如X檔案神秘。

龍形極光 格陵蘭飛翔

天文攝影師卡薩度（Juan Carlos Casado）在接近北極的格陵蘭拍攝極光時，極光竟出現龍頭影像（上圖），令人嘖嘖稱奇。
相中的龍 頭由一大片綠色極光組成，隱約看到龍的眼睛，猶如在一片紫色的星空飛翔，亦有極光以彩虹的形狀出現，與湖中的倒影相輝映。相中的極光劃破格陵蘭夜空，上演 一幕幕「極光秀」（左圖）。卡薩度指部份相片是由多幅相片拼湊而成，以獲得極光四周及天空的全景，強調所有相片都是用長時間曝光拍攝，絕無電腦加工。

UFO-like ‘earthquake light’ mystery solved by scientists

For many years witnesses have reported seeing eerie lights appearing before or around the time of an earthquake.

Scientists used to think that people claiming to see balls of light in the air before or during an earthquake were telling tall tales. Then video cameras at the scenes of recent earthquakes proved otherwise: Footage showed that there really were bight orbs floating in the air above a fresh earthquake fissure. Even more recently, a few researchers have found a source for the mysterious lights deep beneath Earth’s crust.
In a report published Jan. 2 in the journal Seismological Research Letters, researchers analyzed 65 documented occurrences of earthquake lights over the last 400 years. The Great San Francisco Earthquake was one of these—bystanders had described seeing floating lights two before the earthquake hit.
The study researchers identified an electrical current that flows out of some earthquake fault lines as the composite plates that constitute the crust pull away from each other. This electricity may be what’s forming the lights.
Most big earthquakes happen at subduction zones—sites where one continental plate dives below another. But the earthquake cases where witnesses saw lights bucked the trend. Of the incidents that the researchers examined, 97% seemed to occur not at subduction zones, but at fault lines within continental plates.
These light-prone fault lines would be ones of extreme friction. Continental plates would run against each other and buckle, creating rifts where the Earth would pull itself apart. The rifts would form steep, almost vertical faults that would extend deep into the Earth’s magma, and magma rocks that has been buried deep underground would migrate closer to the surface.
These magma rocks tend to have crystalline structures—a byproduct of the intense heat and pressure to which they have been subjected for eons—and these crystalline structures are conducive to forming electricity when subjected to heavy friction. The electricity would flow to the surface, ionize in the air, and create flashes of light.
The records of earthquake lights clearly extends much farther than does the record of serious study of them. Friedemann Freund, a crystallographer at NASA Ames Research Center and San Jose University and one of this study’s coauthors, acknowledged that until recently, the lights phenomena had not made its way into scientific reports, partly because the evidence was only anecdotal and the lights would only be visible for brief instants, sometimes only fractions of a second. This only changed in 2007, when video cameras at earthquakes in the Italian town of L’Aquila and the Peruvian town of Pisco both caught earthquake lights on film.

阿珍：月圓與月經

今日是中秋節，因為中秋的月亮特別圓，標誌著一家人也該團團圓圓，回家吃飯團聚。中秋節令人聯想到的，除了要早點訂檯吃飯、買兔仔燈籠、月餅有多肥、嫦娥奔月外，還有甚麼？
中秋的月圓之夜，在以前的農務社會，是一年辛勞工作已完成，農作物收割之時，因為上天的眷顧，令農作物得以豐收，人們懷以感恩共慶中秋。在沒有電燈的時代，人敏感的生理周期受月亮的光照影響，新月時寧靜休息，滿月時活躍慶祝，以往的生活，與月亮的周期生生相息。
月亮在占星學上，象徵女性、情緒和知性，代表陰性能量，月亮的周期為28天，與女性生理周期相符合。月亮影響潮汐潮退，人身體的水份佔70%，自然也影響到我們身體的潮汐潮退。
有趣的是，理性的科學卻認為月亮對地球的生活有影響並不科學。現代人用西曆，住在密集的城市也不是時常看見月亮，繁忙的生活和光污染，令我們已遺忘了與月亮的緊密關係。
我開始發現我的女性生理周期與月圓生生相息，是因為我兩年前開始用iphone app紀錄月經的周期，以方便計劃旅遊。自去年從城市搬到離島居住後，差不多每晚都能看到美麗的夜空，對月亮的周期也變得敏感，我發現每次月圓，我的M同 時準時到達，令我不禁聯想，難道月圓令我潮汐？
我上網做了一點研究，發現了有趣的觀點。如果女性在月圓時排卵，新月時來經，是處於白月亮周期(white moon cycle)，是生育的最理想狀態。新月時來經，正好是身心休息的最佳時刻。月圓時人們充滿活力，也有較大性趣，如果女性正在排卵期，是懷孕的巔峰時機。
在新月時排卵，月圓時來經，是處於紅月亮周期(red moon cycle)，代表女性遠離生育和物質生活的追求，轉為追求內心的發展，孕育的不是小孩，而是個人的創意計劃。當月圓時來經，就像身心需要休養生息時，被 大光燈照耀，迫使你清楚面對內心的掙扎，是最具創意的時刻。在以往的年代，因為女性的角色只為生育，假若性的力量並不是用於生育，處於紅月亮周期的女性， 被視為挑戰男性的力量，所以被標籤為邪惡、誘惑、具智慧的女人，甚至是女巫！
Oh no！我是女巫？還有，如果我想生育，我的周期完全錯了！不過想清楚，此刻的我，的確並不打算生育，而我亦正集中於策劃我的小創作，我們的身體，其實清楚 了解自我內心深處的渴求，而相應地作出調節。所以處於白月亮還是紅月亮周期，並沒有好壞之分，純粹在於這是否符合你當時的個人渴求。
另外，在占星學上，月圓時月亮位處的星座，會影響受孕BB的性別。如果你很想懷有男嬰，而你又處於白月亮周期，就應該在月圓時，月亮在陽性星座的日 子受孕。如果想懷有女嬰，就選在月圓時，月亮在陰性星座的日子受孕。另外，如果你伴侶的星座，剛好是月圓時位處的星座，男方當晚的精子數量亦會增多，增加 女方的受孕機會。
陽性星座為：白羊座、雙子座、獅子座、天秤座、人馬座和水秤座
陰性星座為：金牛座、巨蟹座、處女座、天蠍座、山羊座和雙魚座
同時，如果不想意外懷孕，明白了自己的周期，就不要在高危的周期作出高危的行為。
很多人認為這些占星和月亮周期之說是大迷信，並不科學。但作為敏感的女性，多了解自己身體和大自然之間的微妙關係，跟隨自然的節奏，在正確的時機做 正確的事情，是理性有效地運用資源。現今科技發達，吃藥打針可快速改變生理周期，但我個人並不支持強行改變自然節奏的方法。健康的飲食、打坐冥想、做瑜 珈、多了解身心的需要，能有助以自然的步伐，改變女性的生理周期。欲速不達，凡事莫強求！

希臘奇景「四龍」出海

有人說水龍捲是一生一遇的奇景，意大利人朱迪奇竟然一口氣見到10多個。當日他坐船遊希臘奥尼亞海，突然見雲形成漏斗狀，一個接一個出現，驚訝的他立即按快門，拍下「四龍」奇景。
朱迪奇說：「水龍捲每個相距約600米，每個維持約四分鐘。右舷那邊共有10個，左舷也有幾個。」水龍捲並不會抽起海水，所以朱迪奇的船穿過其中也沒事。
相片拍於1999年，最近登上美國太空總署（NASA）網頁，才受到注意。

北京驚現彩虹雲！前日傍晚時分，有民眾在北京上空發現彩虹雲，雲中透射出各種顏色，相當漂亮。對於彩雲出現，有人質疑是「地震先兆」，又或者是京城將現大凶兆，亦有網民讚嘆能看到這樣美景的人，將有好運降臨。中新網

澳洲驚現罕見「火龍捲」

【明報專訊】澳洲製片人坦格（Chris Tangey）早前在澳洲北部艾麗斯斯普林斯（Alice Springs）察看新片拍攝地點時，遇上罕見的「火龍捲」。他憶述當日風和日麗，300米外突然冒出一條高達30米的火柱不斷旋轉。雖然四周無風，但火龍捲卻發出恍如戰機般的轟然巨響，約40分鐘後消失無蹤。火龍捲有「烈火惡魔」（fire devil）別稱，是由溫暖的上升氣流與地面的火源接觸所致，持續時間通常只有約兩分鐘，可引致嚴重火災。

芬蘭證實北極光會發怪聲

北極光無疑是自然界鬼斧神工，伴隨美景的怪聲更是神秘莫測，人們對那聲音的描述各異，科學界一直百思不得其解。芬蘭研究員最近終於找到神秘聲音的來源──源自離地面僅70米的位置，遠低於北極光出現的半空。
芬蘭阿爾托大學的研究透過三個咪高峯，在不同位置記錄極光聲音，結果發現聲音來源僅離地面70米，遠低於北極光閃現的120公里高空。
「過去科學家認為，北極光出現的位置太高，人類根本不可能聽到極光的聲音。極光出現，是因為太陽釋放帶電粒子飛向地球，碰到北極上空磁場形成扭曲磁場，帶電粒子能量釋放後形成。我們的研究發現，與極光形成一樣的帶電粒子，會製造這些聲響。」負責研究的教授萊恩說。

末日徵兆？ 美小鎮第二年下黑鳥雨

今年世界末日信不信由你，但美國阿肯色州小鎮比比，連續第二年除夕夜有 5,000隻黑鳥從天而降死亡，恍如末日預言描繪的景象。
除夕夜，當比比鎮家家戶戶在開派對慶祝之時， 5,000隻黑鳥從天掉下。由於去年除夕夜，小鎮同樣下黑鳥雨，接連兩年出現異象，令居民和專家都覺得不可思議。

有動物專家認為，可能是新年煙花巨響嚇壞黑鳥，令牠們失去方向感墮地亡，但牧師貝格利說：「那不會和煙花有關，否則每年美國獨立日都有雀鳥掉下。」居民麥金尼說：「當雀鳥開始掉下，我拿着指南針，指針轉個不停，無法指向北面。」專家也說事件很不尋常，因為雀鳥一般不會夜間飛行。美國康奈爾大學鳥類專家麥高恩教授說：「雀鳥的夜視能力和人類差不多，不像貓頭鷹那樣夜間覓食，跟我們一樣是『夜盲』。」但有指是有人故意向雀鳥射煙花，導致牠們集體死亡。
另外，挪威北部一個岸灘近日亦有幾噸鯡魚離奇死亡。

英降蘋果雨 掀女巫傳說

英格蘭中部考文垂市（ Coventry）周一傍晚出現「蘋果雨」，大量蘋果突從天降（圖）。對於這神秘異象，氣象部門相信是龍捲風所致，有人卻迷信是巫術作祟。
周一傍晚 6時 45分，考文垂市北一條公路，突然從天撒滿一地蘋果，目擊異象的女車主事後猶有餘悸說：「蘋果突然從天上掉下來，都是小蘋果，重重砸在汽車引擎蓋上。」蘋果還狠狠砸在車頂和擋風玻璃窗，駕車人士紛紛停車。
當地 63歲居民米金斯翌日一打開屋門，見到前園地上有多個被壓扁了的蘋果，他望過對面馬路，看見更多扁了的蘋果，才知不尋常。
怪的是，考文垂市北附近沒蘋果樹，究竟蘋果從那裏來又怎樣掉下來，居民和專家議論紛紛。一個說法是，反常天氣使風雨形成強力真空，足以將東西升起，然後丟到 161公里外地方。另有說法是，蘋果可能是從貨運飛機掉下來的。氣象部門就認為，那些蘋果是由龍捲風從遠處捲到當地的。但當地基督教議會人員指，當地有女巫數百年，不時有古異事件發生。

鑽石行星直徑是地球 5倍

這是人類歷來發現的最大顆鑽石，但沒有人可以據為己有或戴在身上，因為它是一顆碩大無朋的鑽石行星（圖）。
英國曼徹斯特大學科學家透過位於柴郡的天文望遠鏡，觀測到銀河系裏有一顆奇特行星，它的密度比目前任何已知的星體都要高，主要成份是碳。由於這行星的密度實在高得太驚人，科學家相信，行星上的碳一定是結晶體，意味這行星是一顆超級巨鑽，也是無價寶。
鑽石行星距離地球 4,000光年，圍繞着一顆中子星運轉，運行一圈只須 2小時 10分鐘，它的體積不算大，直徑約為 64,000公里，大概是地球的 5倍，但它的質量比木星稍大，而且密度更足足是木星的 20倍。

超懶女豐唇熱爆 一星期不洗澡

大熱天，單是站在街上已大汗淋漓，恨不得立即冲凉爽一爽，但一個日本女孩，近日在網上留言，自稱很懶，一個星期不洗澡，還公開自己不太潔淨的腋下特寫照。如此骯髒，真的要被媽媽罵，離奇的是，有日本網民瘋狂愛上她，向有一張豐嘴的她求愛。
「超懶女」今年 21歲，仍在待業，愛在日本網上論壇留言，坦承自己「實在太懶」，所以一星期沒洗澡，雖然未傳出異味，但頭髮已有些「油味」。「超懶女」還透露自己仍是處女，又上傳了凌亂的房間及吃飯糰熱狗的照片，如此一個「極品」，卻沒有嚇走男人，反而有網民看過照片後，都被她迷倒，大讚她的嘴唇很像性感女星井上和香。

明月高掛 彩虹變月虹

雨過天晴，彩虹會高掛天邊，但在澄明月夜下，彩虹會化身「月虹」（ MoonBow圖）。月虹只會在晚上無雲，大氣中又有水氣的情況下，在美國加州國家公園瀑布區、肯塔基州坎伯蘭瀑布和非洲維多利亞瀑布，伴隨明月出現，機會難得一見。

黑洞噴射高清圖曝光

黑洞是宇宙中最神秘的東西，美國太空總署（ NASA）最近透過在南半球的多個無線電太空望遠鏡，捕捉到地球附近一個超大質量黑洞噴射粒子的情景，是至今所看到最細緻和最清晰的黑洞噴射圖像（圖）。
科學家是在地球附近星系半人馬座 A，捕捉到黑洞噴射的情景，半人馬座 A是一個只有不足 4.2光年的區域，比我們的太陽與最近恒星之間的距離還要小，但這裏有一個超大質量的黑洞，質量是太陽的 5,500萬倍。而 NASA的望遠鏡就能捕捉到小至 15光天的電波噴射情況，是至今解像度最高的黑洞噴射畫面。英國《每日郵報》

Earth 'to get second sun' as supernova turns night into day

The Earth could soon have a second sun, at least for a week or two.

The cosmic phenomenon will happen when one of the brightest stars in the night sky explodes into a supernova.

And, according to a report yesterday, the most stunning light show in the planet’s history could happen as soon as this year.


Earth will undoubtedly have a front row seat when the dying red supergiant star Betelgeuse finally blows itself into oblivion.

The explosion will be so bright that even though the star in the Orion constellation is 640 light-years away, it will still turn night into day and appear like there are two suns in the sky for a few weeks.

The only real debate is over exactly when it will happen.

In stellar terms, Betelgeuse is predicted to crash and burn in the very near future. But that doesn’t necessarily mean you have to rush out and buy sunglasses.

Brad Carter, Senior Lecturer of Physics at the University of Southern Queensland in Australia, claimed yesterday that the galactic blast could happen before 2012 – or any time over the next million years.

‘This old star is running out of fuel in its centre,’ Dr Carter told te Austalian website news.com.au.

‘This fuel keeps Betelgeuse shining and supported. When this fuel runs out the star will literally collapse in upon itself and it will do so very quickly.

‘This is the final hurrah for the star. It goes bang, it explodes, it lights up - we’ll have incredible brightness for a brief period of time for a couple of weeks and then over the coming months it begins to fade and then eventually it will be very hard to see at all,’ he added.


The Internet is abuzz with doomsday theories linking the supernova to the Mayan calendar’s prediction of an Armageddon in 2012, fuelled by the association of the word ‘Betelgeuse’ with the devil.

But experts claimed that even if the big bang is looming, it will still happen way too far from Earth to do us any harm.

‘When a star goes bang, the first we will observe of it is a rain of tiny particles called nuetrinos,’ said Dr Carter.

‘They will flood through the Earth and bizarrely enough, even though the supernova we see visually will light up the night sky, 99% of the energy in the supernova is released in these particles that will come through our bodies and through the Earth with absolutely no harm whatsoever.’

When it happens, the Betelgeuse supernova will almost certainly be the most dramatic ever seen.

It is the ninth brightest star in the night sky and the second brightest in the constellation of Orion, outshining its neighbour Rigel – or Beta Orionis – only very rarely.

It’s distinct orange-red colour makes it easy to spot in the night sky.

If it was at the centre of our solar system, its surface would extend past the asteroid belt, wholly engulfing Mercury, Venus, Mars and the Earth.
